Godliness vs. Exercise

First let me thank all my billions of fans or should I say all 5 of you :)

This week has challenged my spiritual life more than my physical life. God has been teaching me about being His friend instead of just his servant. I have not given up on the 5k, but I am incredibly behind. I have been enjoying food and neglecting exercise, but I am starting again this week.

I would like to blame my lack of exercise on something, but I don't have any excuses. Truthfully I have been rather lazy when it comes to physical fitness. In fact the thought of the treadmill makes me want to drown myself in a buffet of food.

Despite my hatred for exercise, I will continue. As Paul said, "I will press on."

I would like to ask everyone to pray for me this week. I am really struggling with dieting and exercise, but I know I need to continue.

Thanks Everyone!

Training Day 1- Better Late Than Never

Well as usual I am off to a late start. I was suppose to start training on Monday but, I was distracted by a little self loathing and dreading the treadmill of death. Anyway I defeated the treadmill today. I started with a 5 minute warm-up and then alternated 60 seconds of running (5mph) with 1 minute & 30 seconds of walking (3.5 mph). This resulted in a total of 20 minutes, 1.25 miles, and 1 walking dead man.

On a side note, some of you may wonder what health has to do with being a pastor. I can answer that in 1 word: Everything! Have you ever noticed most preachers are overweight? The Bible says that preachers are "ambassadors of God". This means we are the representatives of Christ. So I ask myself and you:

Would Christ rather be represented by a bunch of fat preachers that brag about their ability to down 10 hamburgers in 2 minutes or would he be glorified by a preacher who is well maintained in his physical and spiritual life. I think you know the answer.

The Bible says that our body is a "temple (house) of God & whoever defileth (neglects, tampers, destorys, distorts) the temple, he will God destroy." So health is important, especially if your on the go all the time!

Confession #1: I Am Fat!

Promise not to laugh. Ok if you promised keep on reading...

I am going to run a 5k on March 27th. Stop laughing! I am serious.

For those of you who don't know a 5k is a 3 mile race. Now this would be easy if you were in shape, but I'm not. Here is my stats:

Height: 6ft
Weight: 240 lbs
BMI: 35

As you can see, I am not exactly ready for the Olympics. The last time I ran was when the ice-cream truck was going down the street, so this is going to be a challenge. I only have about 60 days to train.

I am ready for a life-change and the first goal is to simply complete the 5k. This means I will need to exercise and eat right. I have been doing Weight Watchers Online & have already lost 15 lbs (Hooray!), but I need to drop at least 60 more pounds.

So the plan is to train every other day on the treadmill using this plan: coolrunnings & to eat healthy food. I'll be tracking my progress for the next 60 days, so feel free to offer your advice & prayers!

Hello World!

Everything begins with a thought. Here is the thought that has inspired this blog:

"What would happen if the world could see the true life of a pastor?"

So here I am. My name is Eddie Yount. I am the pastor of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Taylorsville, NC. I am also the proud husband of my beautiful wife, and the father of a beautiful baby girl.

That is who I am on the surface, but there is more to my life than meets the eye.

Throughout this blog, I will make 1 confession at a time, so check back regularly. After I make a confession, I will update it every few days to tell of my progress. I welcome all comments and prayers, and always appreciate tips & Scripture.

My Prayer:

Daddy (my prayer name for God),

I love you so much. You are the author of my life. I pray you will use my life as an open book. Use it to encourage others through their struggles and difficulties. I pray you will bless everyone who reads this blog & those who post comments. May you be glorified with me.

Bowed @ Your Feet in humility,
Amen
